Let me start with myself.
The road I walk is the one that goes out to the front. But the farther I go, the clearer it becomes: how far I can go was never about me alone.
This video is Michael Chin—a companion who has walked with me since day one—being asked which role he carries in the Great Commission.
He and Joanna are a couple. Every time I come back, they welcome me into their home, and they send me out with their giving.
He says, very honestly, that the kind of person who goes out—the Goer—is the one he most admires in his heart.
Goer。」In his own words: "I really do admire the Goer."
Then he did not stay in the admiring. He says, looking at the whole season we are in, he knows his place right now—he is the one who welcomes, the one who sends.
He pointed to the Great Commission: to make disciples of all nations. He says that within the one same commission, each person carries a different role—some send, some welcome, some go, some mobilize.
As I listened to him lay it out, my heart grew quiet. These four roles are different members on one same body, with no higher or lower among them.
He also said that going out is not something he can do unless he and Joanna are of one heart.
In his own words: "Without being of one heart, you simply cannot go—you really cannot get out the door."
In that line, what I heard was a protection.
The one who goes cannot slip out alone. To reach the front, there must first be a circle of people of one heart with you, and that circle is the very road that carries you to the field.
The reason I could give myself, season after season, to the work, is that every time I came back, someone had a home ready for me, so that I carried no worry behind me.
He said a line I wrote down. He says that one who belongs to the household simply does the household's work.
In his own words: "You want to enjoy the privileges of a prince—but there are also the responsibilities of a prince."
Then he picked up the microphone and prayed for me, the one who goes out.
He asked the Lord to remember the labor at the front, to strengthen both my mind and my body; he asked that they would be able to walk together with me.
The line he ended on, I keep remembering:
In his own words: "We are behind her, and we keep supporting her, and we let her know—behind her, we are a team."
This is me to us to WE: the me who goes out and the them who keep watch behind were always one body, people on one same road.
I can go far because there really is a team behind me.
